Brake problems are not always as simple as worn pads. Noise, vibration and pulling can each have several causes, and the way the symptom appears gives useful clues about where to look first.
Squealing brakes
A light squeal can come from pad material, surface corrosion, contamination or wear indicators. It does not automatically mean the brakes are unsafe, but persistent noise deserves inspection, especially if braking performance has changed.
Grinding or scraping
A harsh grinding noise can indicate that friction material has worn away far enough for metal-to-metal contact. It can also come from debris, damaged backing plates or another component touching the disc. If the noise is severe, avoid continuing to drive until the system has been checked.
Steering-wheel vibration under braking
Vibration felt mainly through the steering wheel can be associated with front brake-disc run-out or uneven friction, but suspension and hub condition also matter. Replacing discs without checking the surrounding components can allow the problem to return.
Brake pedal pulsation
A pulsing pedal may be related to disc condition or ABS operation. If it happens only during hard braking on a slippery surface, ABS may be working normally. If it occurs every time you slow down, the brakes should be inspected.
Vehicle pulling to one side
Pulling under braking can be caused by a sticking caliper, uneven pad condition, hydraulic problems, suspension faults or even tyre issues. The symptom needs to be assessed as part of the whole front-end system rather than assuming one side simply needs new pads.
Uneven brake wear
If one pad or one side of the vehicle is wearing much faster than the other, there may be a seized slider, sticking caliper or another mechanical issue. Fitting new pads without correcting the cause usually means the same uneven wear returns.
Dashboard brake and ABS warnings
Electronic warnings introduce another layer of diagnosis. Wheel-speed sensors, wiring, low voltage and control-system faults can all trigger ABS lights. Mechanical brakes can be in good condition while an electronic fault is still present.
When should brakes be checked immediately?
Book an inspection promptly if the pedal becomes soft, braking distance increases, the car pulls strongly, there is a heavy grinding noise or a brake warning stays on. If the vehicle feels unsafe, do not drive it simply to reach the workshop.

Still not sure what is causing the problem?
Symptoms can overlap between several faults. A proper inspection and diagnostic process is usually cheaper than replacing parts based on guesswork.
